SPORTS BROADCASTER
TAYLOR MATHIS
ABOUT MEme.
fTUNE INTO TAYLOR...
From a young age, I have always enjoyed speaking and performing in front of people. After attending my first professional baseball game at the age of seven, I fell in love with the sport and was fascinated with the reporters on the field. From that moment on I knew I wanted to be a sports reporter. I dedicated the rest of my early years to becoming a sports whiz and performing in front of others, as I had a natural talent for singing and acting. These traits came in handy when I began to focus on sports reporting.
I decided that I wanted to concentrate on the sports television industry, and chose to leave my home state of Illinois to attend the University of Iowa. I wanted to take full advantage of Iowa's highly ranked journalism program and the Big Ten Hawkeye sports environment. I am expected to graduate in May of 2015 with my Bachelors in Journalism and Mass Communications along with a minor in Sports Studies.
Over the course of my college career, I emmersed myself in the broadcasting industry by acquiring numerous internships and jobs in print, radio, television, and social media production.
I have worked with several major companies such as CBS Radio in Chicago where I gained experience in radio broadcasting, and Comcast SportsNet in Chicago where I not only gained on-air television broadcasting experience but also produced and did behind the camera work for the sports channel.
I worked at Daily Iowan TV where I was a sports reporter and anchor. I shot, wrote, and edited all of my own stories and anchored the sports show on a weekly basis. Through this job I had the opportunity to cover football games on the field at Kinnick Stadium, travel with the Hawkeye men's basketball team as a beat reporter, and cover everything else in Iowa sports.
Currently, I work as a sports reporter and anchor for NTV in Kearney, Nebraska and KFXL out of Lincoln. I shoot, write, edit, and report two sports stories a day and anchor sports every week night. I also have the chance to cover another Big Ten team the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Whether it's covering the volleyball national champions or reporting live on the sidelines at Memorial Stadium, big red has it all!
